Learning to Soar

Becoming a competent glider pilot is not that complicated and it’s a lot of fun. So long as you are reasonably fit you can learn to glide at any age, and can fly solo from as young as 15. During your training you will have the opportunity to explore the world from the air and experience the exhilaration of finding thermals to carry your glider aloft.

For most people, the joy of gliding comes from simply soaring like a bird and being able to share the exhilaration of the sport with other people. There is nothing else they would rather be doing.  Some may choose to take their passion further by tackling aerobatics, cross country flights or competition flying.

Before you even consider these options Melbourne Soaring recommends that you have an Air Experience Flight to make sure the sport meets your expectations. The next step is to join Melbourne Soaring and register for one of our Let’s Start Flying five day courses. You also can do your training on weekends. Our experienced instructors, who are Gliding Australia trained and certified instructors, will teach you everything you need to know in our club owned fibreglass two seat training glider. You will also have access to a gliding flight simulator as part of your training.
